“The Lahaye family has been making Champagnes in and around the Crand Cru village of Bouzy in Montagne de Reims since the 1930's. Benoit took control of domaine in 1993 and began producing wine under his own label in 1996. From the start he has been interested in making wine from more natural methods but was careful to make all changes stepwise to better evaluate their effects: • Elimination of synthetic herbicides in 1994 • Began conversion to organic agriculture in 1996 • Full organic conversion in 2003 • Organic certification (EcoCert) in 2007 • Biodynamic certification (Biodyvin) in 2010 • Working of vines and soil by horse in 2010 The domaine today consists of 4.8 hA (12 acres) mostly in Bouzy (3 hA) with parcels in the adjacent villages of Ambonnay (1 hA) and Tauxières (0.6 hA). To the south in Côtes de Blancs there is a 0.2 hA parcel of 50 year-old Chardonnay.”
